Friday Faves!

Hey lovely people!

How's everybody's Friday been so far. The hubby and I have been busy doing a bit of DIY in the house... and getting rid of some furniture so not exactly a relaxing evening so far. However, we're calling it quits for the night and settling down to watch some "Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip", with a couple of bottles of beer and a bar of chocolate. Before I do that though, I will share this weeks favourite things with you all.

1. You guessed it... My hubby!

I got to spend an extra day this week with my favourite guy, with it being a bank holiday Monday, and it made my week that little bit better. I love this picture of him... It was taken as part of my photography coursework and reluctant as he was to let me take it, it's ended up being one of my favourite images of him.

2. Concert Tickets!

Excited is an understatement! My boys are playing Bellahouston Park in Glasgow on the 19th of August... And being a member of The Victims (The Killers Fan Club) I managed to get myself some pre-sale tickets!!! So me, the hubby, my big cousin and his wife will all be dancing our asses off in Bellahouston Park on the 19th of August... and yes I already have a countdown on my iPhone!

3. New Purchases!

Who doesn't love new nail polish? I've already spoke at length about these glorious little pots in my previous post so I won't go into any further detail about them. I just love some new beauty goodies to play with.

4. Cuteness Personified!

I had a shoot with these 2 cutie pie twins last week and spent the best part of this week editing their photos. Seriously, is there any better job than this??? It is quite literally... like I've already said a million times, the best job in the world.

5. Blog Of The Week!

http://www.supergorgeous.co.uk/
I've really been loving this gorgeous ladies beauty filled blog. The writer behind the blog Super Gorgeous is the delightful Alice. She is a makeup artist and freelance photographer, sharing her views on the latest beauty and fashion trends, not only through her interesting and descriptive words, but her technically astute use of a camera. Her images are engaging and her reviews are an absolute pleasure to read. As well as this, her Instagram is equally enthralling, and you should definitely give her a follow.

So that's my favourites for this week. I hope you have a great Friday night and I will be back tomorrow to annoy you with another Saturday post.

Take care lovelies. x

April Photo Challenge - Day 2 - "Arm Candy"

Hey lovely people!

So today's submission theme is "Arm Candy" and initially I thought about taking a photograph of my super handsome husband (any excuse to show him off), but then I thought I would be more literal and actually take a photo of his arm - his tattooed arm to be exact!

So this might seem like a rather strange thing to want to show off - but I have a thing with arms. You know how some women like muscles, or eyes or a tight little toosh??? Well I am into arms!!! Lol... And believe me, I understand how that sounds. But I'm really not being bias (maybe a little) when I say that my husband has the most amazing arms I've ever seen.

Ok, so I'm going to leave it there, because I have a feeling I have shared far too much already! Look out for tomorrows submission which is "Brushes"...  So you can rest assured it shouldn't be too creepy like this one!

Take care lovelies. x

T.M.I Tag

Hey lovely people!

Is everybody having a good Saturday??? I hope so.

So today I thought I would go ahead and share some info with you all... or perhaps too much info as it were.

This is a tag that I have seen loads of times and I love reading posts about it and watching YouTube videos about it, so I thought I would give it a go and share it with you all.

So here goes:

1: What are you wearing?
I'm having a "black day" today so I'm wearing black leggings, a black long-line vest top, a black jumper & black socks. I am however wearing a bright orangey red lipstick so at least there's a pop of colour.
2: Ever been in love?
Yes. I am super in love with my husband.
3: Ever had a terrible breakup?
Yes. I had quite a serious boyfriend when I was 14 and my mum thought it was getting too serious so told me I had to finish it, hence a some very complicated break-up drama.

4: How tall are you?
5ft 7inches.
5: How much do you weigh?
Too much.
6: Any tattoos?
Nope. However my husband has 2 that are dedicated to me. One is a small "D" behind his left ear and the other is the date we started seeing each other on his right wrist. So does that count???
7: Any piercings?
Yes. I have one piercing in each of my ears. I used to have 2 piercings in each ear but I kept forgetting to put earrings in them and so they eventually closed up.

8: OTP? (One True Pairing)
Ok, I have a few of these. I absolutely love New Girl and want nothing more than things to work out between Nick & Jess. Also I am obsessed with The Vampire Diaries and I very much in love with Ian Somerhaulder who plays Damon and I much prefer him and Elena as opposed to Stefan and Elena.

9: Favourite Show?
This is too hard a question. How can I possibly whittle it down to one show. So
I'll just give you my current faves: Modern Family (HILARIOUS), New Girl (AMAZEBALLS), and I'm re-watching Ugly Betty from the beginning again so that too.
10: Favourite bands?
The Killers, Snow Patrol, Cold Play, James, Mumford & Sons to name but a few.
11: Something you miss?
This is more a "Someone" I miss... and that's my Granny Rose. She died almost 14 years ago and I miss her everyday.
12: Favourite song?
Oooft... too many to name. Current faves are Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" just because it's a super sexy wee beat and "Drunk In Love" by Beyonce just because she's freaking awesome!
13: How old are you?
28... 29 in June!!! *sobs
14: Zodiac sign?
Cancer.
15: Quality you look for in a partner?
Somebody who is kind.
16: Favourite Quote?
This is a little "Photography" related number but I just love it:
"Life is like a camera. Focus on what's important. Capture the good times. Develop from the negatives. If things don't work out, take another shot".
17: Favourite actor?
Oooh... erm... I love Christian Bale & Tom Hardy just because they're such method actors. Every role I watch them in is completely different from the last one.
18: Favourite colour?
I lurrrrvvveeee Red!!!
19: Loud music or soft?
Loud all the way.
20: Where do you go when you’re sad?
Into the arms of my hubby. He's the best cuddler you will ever meet and he always makes me feel better with one of his big bear hugs.
21: How long does it take you to shower?
10-15 minutes. I love a shower so I do.
22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Lol... 5 minutes. Unless of course I'm going out and in need of a little makeup fix, in which case it's about 30-45 minutes.
23: Ever been in a physical fight?
Not really.
24: Turn on?
ARMS!!! I am obsessed with arms on a man.
25: Turn off?
Arrogance & superiority.
26: The reason I started a blog?
Initially it was to document my photo-shoots but after reading loads of the fab blogs out there I decided to just make it a lifestyle blog, covering all the aspects of my life as opposed to one single subject.
27: Fears?
I'm terrified of insects... like irrationally terrified. But on a bigger scale - I'm scared of losing the people I love in my life.
28: Last thing that made you cry?
I cry all the time. Like ALL THE TIME!!! I seriously do believe that there is something mentally wrong with me at times. So the last time I cried was this morning - watching a programme on the TV about Astronauts and the dangers they face in Space.
29: Last time you said you loved someone?
Today. I end every call with my hubby with "I love you". :)
30: Meaning behind your Blog Name?
Ok so "Once Upon A Picture" was the username I chose when I set up my Flickr account because I aspire to be one of those photographers who tell stories through their pictures... so I decided that I would name my business "Once Upon A Picture Photography" and when I decided to do my blog it
only made sense to continue on with the theme.
31: Last book you read?
"Reflected In You" by Sylvia Day - It's a raunchy little number so not for the faint hearted.

32: The book you’re currently reading?
"Entwined With You" by Sylvia Day - The final book in the 3 part series.
33: Last show you watched?
Ugly Betty.

34: Last person you talked to?
My husband.

35: The relationship between you and the person you last texted?
My sister Joanne.
36: Favourite food?
Oooh chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate.
37: Place you want to visit?
New York! It's my ultimate dream holiday - but I want to have the proper New York experience in a fancy Manhattan hotel and do all of the touristy things so I'll need a few weeks to spend over there and a few thousand pounds to book it in the first place.
38: Last place you were?
At the park with my dogs and my hubby.
39: Do you have a crush?
Yep... my hubby... and Ian Somerhaulder.
40: Last time you kissed someone?
41: Last time you were insulted?
Wednesday night on Facebook when a narrow-minded individual put a post on about "chunky women".
42: Favourite flavour of sweet?
I love citrus flavours so lemon, lime and the like.
43: What instruments do you play?
None... *shamed
44: Favourite piece of jewellery?
My wedding ring of course.
45: Last sport you played?
Lol... I'm not exactly a sport playing type of gal... I can however swim really well. And I was at the swimming a few weeks ago.
46: Last song you sang?
Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis - an addictive wee tune!
47: Favourite chat up line?
None - they are cheesey as heck!
48: Have you ever used it?
Refer to the above.
49: Last time you hung out with anyone?
Right now... my hubby & my 2 pooches.
50: Who should answer these questions next?
You, you and you!

So there you go, far too much information on yours truly! Hope you enjoyed reading this and by all means leave the link to your blog or video responses in the comments section. I'd love to give them a read.
Take care lovelies. x

My 2nd Friday Faves!

Hey there lovely people.

Happy Friday to you all. I am soooooo glad the weekend has finally arrived as I have plans to do absolutely NOTHING this weekend. Blissful!!!

But before I get busy with my plans to do nothing, I thought I would do another post with my round-up of favourite Friday related things.

So here goes:

1. As I said last week, this guy will always going to make the top spot (Unless he's done something to annoy me).

My fabulous hubby Michael. This photo was taken on our wedding day... how handsome is he in his kilt??? We've been together for 13 years come September and married for 3 come November. Each day I have with him is a blessing. As Phoebe in F.R.I.E.N.D.S put it, he's my lobster!

2. My new fave jumper!

I actually got this earlier in the week, but I have found myself completely attached to it already... and obviously I'm wearing it again today! It is of course my Beyoncé "Surfboard" jumper. To say I love it is an absolute understatement. I have however, found myself randomly singing "surfboard" the way she does in the song a little too often... but hey who doesn't love a bit of Beyoncé - she's the ultimate diva!

3. A new programme to get into!

Now we have had this programme on our radar for a while... but what you might not know about me and my hubby is that we are TV nuts!!! We can sometimes have 20 or so TV shows on the go at the one time. So trying to fit a new show into an already crowded schedule was difficult. Now however, we have found the time to slot this baby in and this weekend will be dedicated to a Game Of Thrones marathon.

4. The greenest day of the year!

I know its not technically St Patrick's Day until Monday but this weekend is when all the celebrating is going down. And despite my plan to do nothing this weekend, my hubby and I may be tempted to do a bit of celebrating with a Paddy's Day lunch and perhaps a sneaky Guinness or 2.

5. A good read!

I am soooooo looking forward to getting a good read of loads of brilliant blogs this weekend. I follow so many wonderful, creative and outright brilliant bloggers and it has seriously become one of my favourite things to do.

So there you have it... this weeks faves. Can't wait to get the weekend started now!

Have a fantastic weekend lovelies. I will of course be blogging over the weekend so keep your eyes pealed for that.

In the meantime...

Take care lovelies. x

International Women's Day

Hey lovely people! Today is International Women's Day and I thought I would use this post to share some of the inspirational women I have in my life, with you all.

1. My mum.

This photo was taken at a family event last year and from left to right it is my sister Joanne, myself and my mum Grace.

She has been my best friend for my whole life. She has always done her best to provide my siblings and myself with whatever we want, keeping us grounded and selfless at the same time. After struggling in a difficult marriage with my step-dad for over 20 years, she finally made the decision to move on with her life and make it better, which has been hard but ultimately paid off in the long run. She never judges anyone for their mistakes and would take your secrets to the grave with her. She is the best person I know and the first person I wanted to talk to when I'm sad or upset. I love her with all my heart and soul, and thank God for giving me such a wonderful mum in my life!

2. My sister Joanne.

I apologise about the picture quality - these images have been taken from Instagram.

My sister Joanne (Jo as I call her) had her first baby (my first and only niece) Lily-Rose when she was just 18. I'm not lying when I say it was a worry for my mum and I, as to whether Joanne would cope with being a mum at such a young age due to the fact that she wasn't a particularly mature 18 year old. How wrong we were!!! I have never met such a good and dedicated mum in all my life, especially at such a young age. She has just taken it in her stride and has come on leaps and bounds the older my niece has got. Then when she had my nephew nearly 2 years ago - again we worried that it would be overwhelming for her. Again we were wrong. She makes being a mummy look easy, and loves nothing more than spending time with her 2 beautiful babies. I can only hope that I might be as good as mum as her, if I ever have my own children!

3. My husbands Grandma.

This is my husbands grandma Elizabeth and grandpa Bernard on their wedding day on the 1st of March 1960. Isn't this the most fabulous vintage photograph... and what about that dress??? Stunning.

The reason I picked this wonderful lady is because she has overcome so much adversity in her life, from moving back home to Scotland from Australia when her mother fell ill, to fighting and winning the battle over breast cancer, to burying her daughter and my husbands poor mum when she died so young and tragically at 38 years of age. She has been a solid maternal figure in my husbands and his brothers lives since they were born and has often put their needs before her own. Not only is she a genuinely good person, but she is also a well read and very articulate lady who can converse at length about a multitude of different topics from art to politics, literature to football. She is just a wonderful person whom I feel has made me a better person from just having had her as part of my life.

4. The women I have lost in my life!

The above photograph is from my wedding day and to the right of the picture you can see 3 photo frames containing the images of 3 very special women in my life.

The first is my gran Marion. She was my step-dads mother and a women who over the years I grew very close with. She was a published writer, poet and a damn good cook. She had lived in New York & California and had an abundance of the most interesting life stories you have ever had. She encouraged me to do well at school and helped with the majority of my English assignments. She was a fabulous lady & a very inspirational lady in my life. I miss her dearly.

The middle picture is of my gran Rose and myself as a baby. She was my mums mum and was the most special women I've ever had in my life. Now when people think of their gran, they often think of an old lady, who likes to knit and play bingo. A lady who is old fashioned and set in her ways. This was not my gran Rose. She was the funniest, quirkiest, most outrageous gran a girl could ask for. She had a wardrobe full of clothes, shoes and coats that wouldn't look out of place in a high end boutique. She was beautiful and never left the house without her face being made-up to utter perfection. She smelled of expensive perfume and she could party as hard as any 18 year old I have ever known. She was just a brilliant person to know and such a fun lady to be around. She battled with cancer numerous times in her life and finally succumbed to the terrible disease at the very young age of 67. There is not a day that goes by when I don't think of her, and mourn the loss of her... even after almost 13 years.

The final picture in the far left is one of my husband and his mum Julie. She was 38 years old when she was taken from us and it's still one of the most shocking experiences of my life. She was an unconventional mum to my husband Michael and his younger brother Matthew. She was their biggest supporter, their best friend and their confidante. The first time I realised how special she was, was when I had lost my gran Marion and I felt like my whole world have fallen apart around about me. She took the time to speak to me and comfort me and told me to listen to a certain song and assured me I would feel better. Well I did. And after 14 years, whenever I hear that certain song I feel that connection with Julie. She was a great person, who had a very hard life, who was taken too soon. I know my husband hurts more often than he lets on, but I'm right there with him and I miss her very much too.

So on a happier note, these ladies are the most inspirational people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and having in my life - even if for too short a time. I hope that everybody has somebody like them in their lives. I know for sure that my life has been a richer one for having had the privilege.

Happy International Women's Day ladies... Keep inspiring us!!!

Take care my lovelies. x

My 1st Friday Faves!

Happy Friday to all you lovely people. The week has come and gone and it's time to relax and enjoy the weekend, except for those of you poor souls who work on a Saturday and Sunday. I salute you.

So I thought I would use this Friday to kick off the 1st of my "Friday Faves" and on that note here goes:

1. Best thing about a Friday (and this will probably always make the top spot... Lol).

My hubby finishes work early on a Friday and without sounding too cringey, he is by far the best part of my weekend and the best thing in my life by far. Any day is more enjoyable when he's there to spend it with me.

2. My Friday Bouquet.

Remember when I posted last week about my Friday bouquet from my lovely hubby? Well this is last weeks carnations still very much alive and kicking - that's another of the reasons I love them so much - long life. But I will be sure to post a pic of this weeks new ones... as long as the hubby remembers. :)

3. The sun is shining and there's not a cloud in the sky!

This photo was taken from my front door and I just can't believe how lovely a day it is! Still absolutely freezing - but at least the sun is shining and hopefully this is a sign of the better weather that's to come.

4. Homemade soup & crusty bread with butter.

You seriously can't beat a pot of soup when it's cold and this bowl of homemade vegetable soup was of no exception. I always feel so much better when I have healthy lunches like this - yes the bread and butter isn't necessarily a healthy option, but be honest - you really do need something to dunk when you're enjoying a bowl of soup!

5. Rosé Wine

On a Friday night my hubby and I usually enjoy a few drinks while watching TV. HOWEVER... We have (stupidly) decided to give up alcohol for Lent.

Let me be clear though. We are in no way problem drinkers - in fact we only ever tend to have a drink a night at the weekend. This year however, we made a deal that we would try and have a healthier approach to life in terms of the food we are eating and the drink we are consuming, therefore when my hubby decided he was packing in the booze for Lent, I thought it was only right that I join him.

Am I regretting my decision now... Yes! :( We are only 3 days in and I'm thinking about throwing in the towel. It's going to be a "Watch this space" kind of scenario I'm afraid.

Anyway, that's the 1st of my Friday Faves for you all. Please feel free to share your own.

Take care my lovelies. x
